EU Removes Mauritius from high-risk countries list
As of 07 January 2022, Mauritius is no longer on the European Union Commission’s list of jurisdictions with strategic deficiencies in their Anti-Money Laundering/Counter Terrorist Financing regimes which could potentially pose significant threats to then EU financial system.
The removal of Mauritius from the EU list comes after the October 2021 Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Plenary Session concluded that Mauritius had strengthened its AML/ CFT effectiveness by addressing technical deficiencies identified by the EU Commission and FATF.
This will enhance Mauritius’ status as a leading and sophisticated jurisdiction within the global financial services industry. It will also reinforce Mauritius’ position as a notable investment destination and domicile of choice for structuring cross-border investment into Africa and Asia.
This development further consolidates its position as an International Financial Centre of substance with an accompanying robust AML/ CFT infrastructure. Mauritius in fact continues to rank 1st amongst African continent nations and 13th globally in the World Bank’s 2020 Report ‘’Ease of Doing Business’’.
