The principal index is the ALSI 40 Index.
JSE/Actuaries All Share 40 Top Companies Index (ALSI 40 Index) is an equity index intended to reflect the performance of the South African ordinary share market as a whole. A relatively small proportion of the total number of securities listed on the JSE are incorporated into the index on the basis that movements in the share prices of those Constituent Companies can be said to represent the movement of the market as a whole. Companies selected for inclusion in the ALSI 40 Index are generally larger companies of sound financial standing having widely traded and marketable shares.
