Gibraltar is not an island
Gibraltar's frontier with neighbouring Spain provides access to the rest of Europe by road, as well as by air from Malaga International Airport. An estimated 3,500 people cross the frontier each day to work in Gibraltar. Many of these are Spaniards who work in the retail sector. The figure also includes around 500 expatriates who work in the Rock's financial sector, some of whom are based in the prestigious residential area of Sotogrande. Despite its small size Gibraltar, like the City of London, has its own commuter belt in the Spanish hinterland. This brings together various advantages for both business and leisure activities for those who operate from the Rock.
